It’s June!

June, the time lots of folks take off to get away from it all. When our daughters were young, we usually took vacation in August. They had swim lessons and swim team, gymnastics. Those activities ended around the first week of August so that’s when we’d head out.

Back in the day, when school districts got to set their own calendars, we’d wait until Dallas ISD returned to classes to make our annual trip to Six Flags. Amazing the difference in traffic. Boy it was hot, but maybe not as hot as it is now.FullSizeRender(8) Girls on Mini Mine Train Ride

We also took the kids to San Marcos to see the swimming pig at the Aquarena Springs.  I believe Bob was especially interested in their mermaids. :-) The fresh spring made the glass bottom boat rides quite fun and educational. I can still remember seeing the bubbles coming up from the bottom.

I remember a trip to San Antonio on our way to Corpus Christi, where we went for several summers. Again, blazing hot and humid. Those paddle boats that are so cute are really hard work! Whew! And in Corpus we always ate at Captain Boomers, a seafood restaurant on a large boat. So fun. It’s now a Landry’s I believe.  FullSizeRender(11)

The girls loved the water.

Then started the years where we went to Red River, New Mexico. One of Bob’s clients had a condo and let us use it for a week. IMG_1573 Quite a deal for our family. And it was blessedly cool. We have some really sweet videos the girls made one year. The Ground Squirrels of Red River and The Trash of Red River. Amazing the beer, coke cans, and paper junk people littered in that very beautiful land! The girls documented that behavior! IMG_1576 Lots of fishing!

Gosh, I nearly forgot the awesome trip to Orlando in June with close family friends. As we left, I said, “I can’t wait to come back!” Maybe with the grands. IMG_1570

When the girls were in college, we realized it wouldn’t be long before they didn’t have time for us any longer. We scheduled a last minute family vacation to The Hyatt Resort in San Antonio. We discovered that the girls were willing to go anywhere with us when the word “Resort” was part of the title. LOL

You may remember my post about our most recent trip to Red River last August. We asked the girls where they’d like to go on a whole family vacation. Red River was their pick. You can read about it here.  http://www.marsharwest.com/red-river-new-mexico-family-vacation/

And I’m going to post August 6 about this year’s whole family trip (including Charley!) here as well as on JQ Rose’s blog, where I’ll be guesting on her  whole summer of guest posts about vacations. You might want to check them out. Here’s the link to her blog. http://www.jqrose.com/ You can scan for locations you’re interested in. Or sign up, then you’ll get them in your emails. :-)

Where and when are you going on vacation? Or do you take vacation at a different time of the year? Any really special trips you’d like to share with us?

Weight Report: Lost 2 lbs and gained those two back. I blame a glitch with my webmail. Almost a whole day I couldn’t’ get on my marsha@marsharwest mail. I gave in to frustration eating! Not smart. I’m doing better again. It’s too hot to eat much of anything but salads. :-)  Losing weight in the summer is always easier.

Writing Updates: Working on getting print copies of TRUTH BE TOLD ready for an East Texas Bookfest in late August and RomCon in September. Both events are open to the public. No charge for the Bookfest in Tyler, August 22. RomCon is lots of fun with lots of different authors and activities.
